Introduction:

Chinese New Year, One of the most important and widely celebrated events in Chinese tradition. It also known as spring festival or lunar new year. This festival occasion marks the start of New lunar year.

It is the time to come together, reflect the past and think about the upcoming future with optimism and hope. The Chinese make this event truly unique and charming experience with their rich culture, exciting costumes and symbolic ceremonies.

Date and Importance:

Chinese New Year typically falling between 21^st January to 20 February based on the lunar calendar. The date varies because it has the link with cycles of sun and moon and also determined by the lunisolar calendar. 

This festival holds the immense culture and historic importance because it representing the end of winter and start of spring and also the time of fresh beginning.

Preparation and cleaning:

Chinese start preparation to welcome the new year weeks before the event. All family member engaged to clean their home symbolizing throw away bad luck and make way for good luck to come their homes. 

This practice not only known as spring cleaning but also ensure physical clean space and it also carries deep culture and spiritual significance.

Decoration and Red Color:

Red color is dominant color during this festival of new year, represent the good luck, happiness and prosperity. Homes and streets are decorated with red lantern, banners and different types of decoration pieces. 

They decorate with Chinese knots, paper cut outs and character FU which mean the sign of blessing and good fortune. Red color also reflects in the dresses of Chinese during this festival that enhanced the atmosphere of festival.

Reunion Dinner:

Families gathered for lavish reunion dinner on the eve of new year. Traditional dishes with symbolic meaning are prepared like fish for prosperity, dumplings for wealth and noodles for long life. 

It will reinforce the importance of family and unity by Sharing meals with loved ones.

Lion and Dragon Dance:

Lion and Dragon dance is the one the most charming aspect of Chinese New Year celebrations. In these performances, dance in unique dresses included that symbolize courage, strength and good luck. The beat of drums and clashing of cymbals creating exciting festival atmosphere.

Firecrackers and Fireworks:

During Chinese New Year celebration, use of firework and firecrackers is rooted in old Chinese tradition. It is assumed that loud sounds defend against evil spirits and bring good luck.

Fireworks lighting the whole sky in the night, adding a grandeur to the festival.

Giving and Receiving Red Envelops (Hongbao):

Red envelops or Hongbao with containing money are exchanged as a symbol of good luck and blessing during Chinese New Year. Children and unmarried individuals receive this red envelops from their elders.

This act of giving and receiving enhance the sense of generosity and good will within the community.
